Webinars “Islamic Movements in Comparative Perspective”

From March 5 to May 2, 2018, the Faculty of Oriental Studies is hosting a series of webinars dedicated to the study of Islamic movements in a comparative perspective. The webinars are attended by students and postgraduates of St. Petersburg State University, incl. students of the programs for training specialists with in-depth study of Islam, and students of the University of Michigan, taking the course Islamic Movements in Comparative Perspective under the supervision of the head of the Scientific Laboratory for Analysis and Modeling of Social Processes A.D. Knysh.

Within the framework of the first webinar, held on March 5, Doctor of Philology, Professor of the Department of World Politics of the Faculty of International Relations N.A. Dobronravin gave a lecture on Islamic Movements in West Africa / Islamic movements in West Africa. On March 12, the candidate of historical sciences, associate professor of the Department of International Relations in the post-Soviet space of the Faculty of International Relations V.G. Sobolev with a lecture on Islam and Politics in Central Asia. Tradition, sovietization or radicalization? / Islam and Politics in Central Asia. Tradition, Sovietization or Radicalization? Lectures will also be delivered by the candidate of philosophical sciences, associate professor of the Department of Oriental Studies, African Studies and Islamic Studies of the Institute of International Relations, History and Oriental Studies of Kazan Federal University L.I. Almazov and postgraduate student of the Department of Middle East Studies at the University of Michigan K. Gasimov.
