November 19, 2019 at the Faculty of Asian and African Studies of St. Petersburg State University, there took place lectures by Aidar Nilovich Yuzeev, professor, head of the department of social and humanitarian disciplines of the Russian State University of Justice:
-Tatar religious reformism
-Tatar thinker S. Marjani (1818-1889)
During the first lecture, the students got acquainted with the main goals and directions of the reform movement in the Volga region of the 19th – early 20th centuries, various concepts of transformations and reforms proposed by the Tatar religious leaders of this period, as well as they learned about the interactions of Tatar thinkers with the other representatives of the Muslim intellectual elite in the world.
The second lecture also aroused keen interest among the universitans: during it, the lecturer told about the stages of Shigabutdin Marjani’s way to become one of the largest representatives of Tatar religious thought, his interactions with the leading orientalists of his time, and various aspects of the educational and scientific activities of the enlightener .
